SAR – Membership Data Protection Policy
In accordance with the EU Data Protection Directive (GDPR), the Society for Artistic Research (SAR) informs you on the following Data Protection Policy established for our organisation:
Part I – Individual Members
- No information handled by SAR as part of this policy document is regarded as sensitive personal information – as defined by Art 9 of the GDPR.
- To become and continue to be an Individual member of SAR, you will have to provide: your full name, email address and postal address.
- This information may either be:
- sent by email to the SAR Board at info@societyforartisticresearch.org, or
- sent by email to the SAR Back Office
- The given information will be available for members of the SAR Board and the operational team. The information will be used to register your membership and issue a yearly invoice for the membership fee, to make depersonalized statistics, to provide information to the member on SAR activities and other relevant information in relation to research environments worldwide, such as the SARA announcement service.
- The received information will be stored by the SAR Back Office at:

SAR has the right to move the function of the Back Office to another operator without further notice.
- In case of a written confirmation from the individual member to terminate the membership, the given information will be deleted from any mailing lists. However, the information regarding previous membership payment will still be stored in our accounting system.
- SAR will not distribute the stored information to any third parties outside of the SAR environment.
Part II – Institutional Members
- No information handled by SAR as part of this policy document is regarded as sensitive personal information – as defined by Art 9 of the GDPR.
- To become and continue to be an Institutional member of SAR, the organisation will have to provide:
- Full name of the institution;
- Postal address;
- Institutional email address;
- Full name of contact person;
- email address of contact person;
- Invoice information.
- This information has to be sent by email to the SAR Board at info@societyforartisticresearch.org.
- The given information will be available for members of the SAR Executive Board and the operational team. The information will be used to register your membership and issue a yearly invoice for the membership fee, to make statistics, to provide information to the member on SAR activities and other relevant information in relation to research environments worldwide, such as the SARA announcement service.
- The received information will be stored by the SAR Back Office at:

- In case the Institutional member becomes a SAR Portal Partner operating a portal on the RC, this member has to issue a policy statement from that organisation regarding their handling of personal data from the RC users.
- In case of a written confirmation from the institutional member to terminate the membership (see the SAR regulations on how to terminate an institutional membership), the given information will be deleted from any mailing lists. However, the information regarding previous membership payments will still be stored in our accounting system.
- SAR will not distribute the stored information to any third parties outside of the SAR environment.
